Redemption: Fulton Pub

After the false start at Fulton Pub, I finally made it back to get my passport stamp! I stopped by after work at OHSU and it was much busier than it had been last time. I wasn't sure I was going to eat; in the rules of my own game, a redemption stamp doesn't require a purchase. But then I saw they had chili cheese fries (The Conquistador) and so.

Afterwards I had a long lovely bike ride home along the Springwater Corridor Trail, gliding under the stars and the bright moon.

McMenamins on Broadway

Location: McMenamins on Broadway. I thought I had been here before, but when I arrived I was surprised it was upstairs. How could I have possibly forgotten that? It certainly explains the tall sign.

Fellow travelers: Sue, Michael & Rebecca! Rebecca took time from her grueling grad school studies to come visit with us at this location.

Favorite light: nothing much of note here except the magnificent skylight, which I wish I had seen in the daytime.

Favorite art: I have to hand it to McMenamins: repurposing the painting that was already here really tickles me.

Also, this fabric art display is certainly unique; I haven't seen anything like it in another McMenamins location.

Food: Rock the Kasbah Burger that was almost certainly undercooked, tots, Ruby Ale shake

Passport stamps: McMenamins on Broadway, McMenamins on Broadway 25th birthday. We should have sung Happy Birthday before we left!

Other items of note:

• This was my third McMenamins in a week! Sometimes it just works out like that depending on my schedule.
• This location has a "Billiards Room" sign above a room that sadly has no billiards in it.
• The patio here looks like it must be wonderful in three seasons: protected and open at the same time, but above the street.

Chapel Pub

Location: Chapel Pub, a classic historical building in North Portland. This is not a quadrant I get to very often, so I was happy when an opportunity popped up to be in the neighborhood.

Fellow travelers: Just me! I had a meeting in this neighborhood and stopped by afterwards for dinner.

Favorite light: Most lamps here are the lovely-but-standard sunburst ones. I like the burning lamp outside, but the firelight from the fireplace I sat next to was probably my favorite:

Favorite art: the architecture! Everything about this location is beautiful, especially the arched windows whose nooks were often filled with books.

Food: Smokestack Lightning mac & cheese, mustard chicken salad, Ruby ale shake

Passport stamps: Chapel Pub

Other items of note:

• Becky & I met here before the Bike Play last summer.
• Before it was a McMenamins, this location was the "Little Chapel of the Chimes," and an organist comes to play music on the restored organ on Thursday nights.
• The ironwork grills, of which I have no photos, were created by the same man who made the ironwork at Timberline.
• This is a great place to hang out and work: I memorized some cases for an upcoming job here. The waitress was gracious and accommodating.

McMenamins Old Church & Pub

Location: McMenamins Old Church & Pub in Wilsonville. Sadly, the ampersand is entirely necessary, as the pub is not inside the church. Instead, it is a separate building entirely with an amphitheater courtyard connecting them.

This location is directly across from a Fred Meyer. I have even been to this Fred Meyer and had no idea this McMenamins was here.

Fellow travelers: Carye & my bike! We took the opportunity on MLK Day to hop onto the MAX, then the WES commuter train, so we could spend the whole day exploring Wilsonville.

Favorite light: After lunch we got to explore the Old Church and must have arrived at rainbow-o-clock: look at the beautiful patterns! They were by far my favorite lights at this location.

Favorite art: Because I am sad that Bonne's Ferry no longer operates, I loved this almost-tarot art most especially:

Food: Old Church pizza, RC. Later we went to Sonic for a Sonic Blast.

Passport stamps: McMenamins Old Church & Pub, Bike. I haven't bought the expansion experience pages, but they were happy to stamp the back of my passport with the bike stamp, anyway. I wish I had thought to stamp my passport for the other locations I have biked to!

Other items of note:

• No shakes at this location! 
• No games, either, which is too bad because the place is huge and Wilsonville could totally use a nice place to play pool/shuffleboard/pinball.
• Before we went to McMenamins we went to the Water Treatment Park (a beautiful park, actually), the Graham Oaks Nature Park (also excellent) and Tranquil City Park. Afterwards we went to where Boone's Ferry used to be, Memorial Park, Town Center Park, and the Family Fun Center (where we tried the Soaring Eagle Zipline, I won an air hockey game, and we each took home a tiny glitter lizard).
